For two years, CURA KNOW turns Willemstad into an open-air lab with a free Science Festival, a Digital Scavenger Hunt, and Scientists and researchers popping up in classrooms across the island as part of “Curaçao Island of Knowledge”.
A. Europe’s Science Festival: For the first time in Curaçao!
On September 25th, the Riffort Village, at the Renaissance Mall will fill with pop-up labs, experiments, demonstrations, interactive experiences and science talks.
Scientists and researchers trade the lecture hall for the street, and everyone is invited. Free of charge.
Build. Tinker. Experiment. Ask questions. Discover something new.
All ages welcome.
B. Join the Science Fair: Imagine it – Make it – Test it – Show it!
Schools and students are invited to take part in the Mad Scientist Science Fair and see Curaçao through the eyes of a scientist.
Choose one of three challenges: Power Up, Trash to Treasure or the Coconut Challenge. Create a simple experiment, prototype or solution and show us: Could it work in Curaçao?
Present your project at the Science Festival on September 25, compete for prizes for your class and receive giveaways for participating students.
C. Are you a scientist or researcher with a connection to Curaçao? Join the Science Squad!
Become a member of the Science Squad and bring your research into the classroom. We are looking for researchers who are excited to meet young people, and are willing to invest an hour of their time to share what they know and show students what science and research look like in real life.
Schools can also sign up for a school visit, by a scientist or researcher from the Science Squad, between October 19 and December 11, 2026.
D. Crack the Science Code: Scan the Code – Solve the Challenge – Win prizes at the Finale!
Science is hiding all around Willemstad.
Take part in the CURA-KNOW Digital Scavenger Hunt, starting in Otrobanda and ending at the Science Festival at the Renaissance Mall and the Riffort.
Scan the clues, solve challenges, discover the science behind everyday places and make your way to the finale. Complete the quest and you could win prizes.
What is CURA-KNOW?
CURA-KNOW “Curaçao Island of Knowledge” is Curaçao’s edition of European Researchers’ Night and the Researchers at School project. These are annual, Europe Wide celebrations that bring research and researchers closer to the public.
The idea of CURA-KNOW is simple: See your island through a new lens.
Discover the science behind our oceans, environment, technology, health, energy, food, culture and everyday life and meet some of the people researching, experimenting and finding new solutions.
Curiosity required. Lab coats and goggles optional.
